Bradford Community Champion – who was named to the New Years Honor Roll – celebrated with special event

A SPECIAL dinner will be held in Bradford to honor one of the district’s community champions later this month.

The dinner was hosted by the Professional Muslim Institute (PMI) and will celebrate the success of PMI member Sofia Buncy DL, following her inclusion in the New Year’s Honors list.

Ms. Buncy DL received an MBE for her pioneering work with the Muslim Women in Prison Project, the Young in Covid Project and her overall contribution to supporting communities across Bradford.

“It was extremely humbling for me to be recognized on the Queen’s Honor List,” she said.

“I am delighted to have been invited by PMI to share my journey to educate and inspire young professionals. It has been an incredible journey, and it is only with the support and guidance of my colleagues that I have been able to make it happen. ”

PMI is an organization dedicated to the overall success and advancement of Muslim professionals in the UK, and aims to improve Muslim representation in professional settings.

PMI aims to develop leadership skills within the UK Muslim community and its members include lawyers, bankers, politicians, peers and successful business models among others.

Recent guests at his dinners included Bradford-born Jabbar Sardar, global director of human resources for BBC Studios, as well as World Cup-winning England cricketer Adil Rashid.

“PMI was created in response to a variety of issues in the district, including economic and educational underachievement and low aspirations,” said Dr Javed Bashir, founder of PMI.

“These disadvantages can lead to alienation and social exclusion, especially among young people. So we had to act to change that.

“Therefore, local solutions were needed to solve local problems. Developing leadership skills in young professionals is essential to the success of the community, so that they can advance in their chosen profession and serve their community more effectively.

“I am very happy that a key member of PMI, Sofia Buncy DL, has achieved exceptional achievements in her career and in the local community.

“She’s got recognition at the highest level, which she can use to inspire other young people.”

PMI Member Reverend Nathan Javed added: “It is very inspiring that Sofia Buncy DL has been honored, and I look forward to attending the dinner to congratulate her and the other members.”

Dinner will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday January 21 at the Anam’s restaurant. For more information, contact [email protected]
