Furyk & Friends Seek To Leverage $1.17M In Charitable Impact In 2nd Tournament

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – In almost every way, the first Constellation Furyk & Friends Golf Tournament was a resounding success. In 2022, they’re looking to make it even bigger.

Tickets for the second installment of the October tournament went on sale Tuesday as the tournament announced it had generated $1.17 million in community impact from the 2021 tournament.

“We have set ourselves a very ambitious goal of raising over $1 million for local charities,” said Tabitha Furyk. “And a lot of people were like, ‘There’s no way in a freshman tournament. You will be lucky to break even. And we achieved our goal of $1.17 million in charitable impact this year through the tournament. So you know, full steam ahead. We can’t wait to see what happens in October.

Charitable programs that have benefited from Constellation Furyk & Friends include The First Tee-North Florida, Blessings in a Backpack, St. Johns Riverkeeper, Habitat for Humanity Jacksonville, and the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation, where they helped fund a STEM room. where children can hone their robotics skills.

“It’s so essential that all children learn some part of STEM,” said Terri Florio, executive director of the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation. “Whether it’s the technology part in terms of robotics or coding, or whether it’s the music part where STEM and coding and technology are so important these days, graphic design, all of that, we’re going to be able to augment and improve on the types of courses and options we have that will not only be fun for kids at this stage, but will also help them determine future careers.

The event‘s first year saw over 11,000 fans attend the Timuquana Country Club during the competition on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A typical PGA Tour Champions event draws around 7,000 people, according to Furyk. Phil Mickelson won the event, beating Miguel Angel Jimenez by two strokes to win.

“On the 17th we had the opportunity for our players to go through hospitality and down to the tee, super exciting, everyone having a blast. Getting Phil to win was super exciting,” Furyk said. “We really had the best golf course, our television ratings topped any regular tour in the same week. So overall I think they were very happy with the event.

So what about the second part? Can they achieve even higher goals?

“You know, it’s really about this community that supports us and keeps coming back every year and helping us make it better, helping it grow, really helping bring this strong field,” Furyk said. “And if we welcome them, they will come back. And the more we can do for charity, I think the more people want to rally behind it and be there for us. And that helps us with the celebrities we bring. You know, David Duval came last year. Now he is in the field. That’s exciting.

Other players who will turn 50 in time to qualify for the event include former Players Champion Justin Leonard and broadcaster Notah Begay.

Additionally, country music stars Lady A will headline the Furyk Foundation concert on October 4 at Daily’s Place. Tickets for the concert also went on sale Tuesday via Ticketmaster.
