GNAC / LSC
PORTLAND, Oregon – Central Washington, Simon Fraser and Western Oregon have accepted invitations to join the Lone Star Conference as affiliate members in football starting in the 2022 season.
“Being able to partner with the Lone Star Conference will help strengthen our membership with GNAC schools and we look forward to the competition schedule we will face at LSC,” said the head coach. Arne ferguson noted. “Having played at a lot of LSC schools over the past few years, we look forward to this recruiting and national level assistance with a chance to play against teams that are still in the conversation to make the playoffs.”
The addition of GNAC programs will make the Lone Star a 10-team conference in football. In the expanded LSC, all teams will play nine-game conference schedules and be eligible for weekly and playoff awards, the league championship, and NCAA playoff spots. Teams will have two weeks open to schedule non-conference opponents.
“Given the recent membership changes at both conferences, this was a logical progression into a unique and important partnership,” said GNAC Commissioner Dave Haglund. “On behalf of our members, I would like to express my gratitude to the leaders of the Lone Star Conference – Commissioner Jay Poerner and the league presidents and athletic directors – for recognizing the immense value of building the successful alliance. which was formed three years ago. “
The multi-year agreement to align with the Lone Star conference marks an improvement in one of the most important planning alliances held at all levels. With the first phase of the alliance announced in 2019, the collaboration between GNAC and LSC has resulted in agreements for nearly 60 matches in the region over four years.
“Each of the 10 locations in the expanded LSC will instantly benefit from the scheduling stability provided by this arrangement,” said Haglund. “For current and future student-athletes of CWU, SFU and WOU, this evolution of the relationship offers results in the most critical areas: membership in one of the most renowned football conferences in Division II and the associated benefits that come with it, including robustness and meaningful conference schedules, first-time access to the Division II playoff automatic qualifying process, and full participation in the LSC rewards program. “
Of the seven full member institutions of the Lone Star Conference that sponsor football, five are based in Texas and two are based in New Mexico.
“We are thrilled to host the Central Washington, Simon Fraser and Western Oregon football programs at the Lone Star Conference. As Affiliate Members, these three institutions will strengthen our football membership and add to our league’s rich history and already strong competition. Said LSC commissioner Jay Poerner. “We look forward to their continued association with the LSC.”
