CIRCLEVILLE – The Beta Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honor society of educators from around the world, is once again hosting a food drive and fundraiser for Pickaway County Community Cabinets.
The Beta Rho Chapter, the local chapter, will be at the Presbyterian Church, located at 134 East Mound Street, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on November 16 to collect donations for the 19 sites in Pickaway County.
“We invite the community to participate in the food drive,” said Karen Bensonhaver, member of the society. “They don’t even have to leave their car; we will take the items from them. Please come and donate in the spirit of the season.
Bensonhaver said they are asking for food items specifically for families who need a little extra for vacation meals and children on vacation.
“Community cabinets, or blessing boxes, are a way for us in the community to help those who are struggling to feed their families,” said Bensonhaver.
“The number of families in difficulty is increasing and the need for food donations is increasing. Items needed are non-perishable food and toiletries. Our goal this time around is to add the things we need most.
Bensonhaver said they were specifically looking for non-perishable foods like cereals and powdered milk, canned pasta, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, beans and smoked sausage, soup, but they will take any donated items like powdered or evaporated milk, crackers, tuna, canned chicken, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, baked beans, ramen noodles, as well as some types of toiletries . It is essential to remember not to bring any items in glass jars. Protein products are still in great demand.
