HEMPSTEAD, NY – Drexel and Hofstra renew their longstanding rivalry on Martin Luther King Day on Long Island. The Dragons and Pride will kick off at 4 p.m. in a Colonial Athletic Association game at the Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Both teams are coming off CAA wins on Saturday. The Dragons won at Northeastern, while Pride defeated Delaware. The 2021-22 Drexel Men’s Basketball Season is presented by IBEW 98.

THE SERIES
Hofstra and Drexel played 94 times before Monday’s game. Each team recorded 47 wins. Last season the teams went their separate ways, with both games being played at Hempstead due to the pandemic. In the first game, Drexel shot 62% and won 73-71. The next day, Hofstra won, 79-74.

ABOUT DREXEL
The Dragons are coming off an impressive 76-68 victory over Northeastern on Saturday in Boston. It was Drexel’s first win at Matthews Arena since 2012. The Dragons have now won three of their last four games and are 2-1 in CAA and 7-6 overall. Camren Wynter had a big game with 26 points and nine assists. He also made all eight free throw attempts, including four in the final minute. This will be Wynter’s final appearance in his hometown of Hempstead as a member of the Dragons. Amari Williams notched his first career double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots. Drexel won despite dressing only eight student-athletes.

Wynter is now averaging 14.7 points and 4.8 assists, which is second in the CAA. He is 16th on Drexel’s list of career goal scorers. Butler still leads the league in rebounding with 9.7 boards but hasn’t played since Towson’s game. He also averages 13.4 points. Melik Martin and Xavier Bell each had 10.3 points. Martin had a great game at NU with 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.

ABOUT PRIDE
Pride is 10-7 overall and 2-2 in CAA play. Speedy Claxton’s team is 6-0 at home after beating Delaware 82-77 on Saturday. Aaron Estrada had 30 points, while Jalen Ray added 23, including five 3-pointers. Hofstra has five players who average at least 10 points. Zach Cooks leads with 16.1 points. Estrada and Ray are each scoring over 15. The Pride is making nearly 10 3-pointers per game and five players have made at least 20 treys.

AND AFTER
Drexel returns home after the game and will play two home games starting Thursday night. Elon will head to the DAC for a match at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Drexel will host James Madison on his final visit as a CAA member.
