HANCOCK – Milton Gordon Niemi, 90, died on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Canal View – Houghton County in Hancock where he had resided for 18 months.

Milton was drafted into the United States Army as a corporal in the medical corps during the Korean conflict. After his honorable discharge from service, he returned home to purchase the family farm. For a short time he drove a fish delivery truck in Chicago and also worked for the Copper Country Dairy. Milt has been a farmer all his life, with beef cattle, dairy cows and horse riding being very important to him.

In 1975, he married the love of his life, Catherine “Tinka” Kangas. They made their living on the farm on the road to Dover. He will be remembered as a man who could tell a story that usually had a lesson to learn. He loved to help or teach anyone who asked for it.

Milton is survived by his wife Tinka in Canal View-Houghton County; one brother, Doug of Oneco Road, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Interment will be held in his family lot at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock, Section 4, on Saturday October 9, 2021 with the Copper Country Veterans Association rendering full military honors.

O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock is helping with arrangements.
