Sedalia School District 200 School Board recently received the 2021 Governance Team Award from the Missouri School Board Association. Only 13 districts of the state have achieved recognition.
According to MSBA, the award signifies “outstanding commitment to continuing professional development, regional and statewide leadership, and active participation in legislative advocacy for public schools demonstrated by (the) school board and the superintendent.” .
The Board of Directors includes President Diana Nichols, Vice President Scott Gardner, Treasurer Kenny Coffelt, Secretary Barbara Schrader and Trustees Michael Stees, Matthew Herren and Sam Kempton; Former Chairman of the Board, Dr Jeff Sharp, who retired in April after more than 20 years of service, was also honored.
Council accomplishments that met the award criteria include:
· All seven school board members have achieved Essential CBM certification from MSBA (or have grandfathered against the requirement).
All seven board members have completed the refresher training requirement for the 2020-2021 board year through MSBA.
· At least two board members have achieved Advanced Board Member certification from MSBA.
· At least one board member (Nichols) has achieved Master Board Member certification from MSBA.
The achievements of the Sedalia 200 board of directors were officially recognized at the MSBA “Igniting Great Ideas Summit” on June 19 at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield.
Nichols said, “All staff in our school district are required to obtain professional development and continuing education applicable to their specific duties. School board members must lead by example and our membership in the Missouri School Boards’ Association gives us the opportunity to achieve continuous improvement through continuous professional development.
