Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Research and Extension Center to Host Annual Field Day | VTX

From: Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Research and Extension Center

The Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Research and Extension Center will hold its annual field day on August 3.

The free event includes field trips to ongoing forage, livestock, forest demonstration and research projects. Tours begin at 1:00 p.m. and faculty will present brief summaries of their projects during an evening program followed by dinner.

To register with the Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Research and Extension Center, visit the center’s website. On-site registration begins at noon.

The tours feature work on improving livestock performance through the supplementation of new feeds, the development of alternative grazing systems, and the establishment of multifunctional forage mixtures. Attendees will also have the chance to see a newly implemented management practice to improve oak regeneration in one of our forests.

Other topics that professors will address in their presentations will include recent developments in beef cattle breeding technologies and the use of technologies to understand the impacts of pasture management on soil fertility and health.
