The literacy event is the club’s first-ever community service project

LIT Crew (librarians in training) collected donations for the Angel Paws Adoption Center in New Iberia.

Today there will be a meeting at Angel Paws to drop off donations as a club, and the students will then stay for a literacy event.

The literacy event is the club’s first-ever community service project where members will read stories to cats and kittens at the adoption center, brush them and play with them.

This event is intended to help socialize animals for adoption, as well as raise awareness of center needs, but also provides our club members with the mutually beneficial opportunity to practice reading aloud without judgment. This is a necessary skill because our LIT team members are literacy leaders in our school and help promote literacy to other students, as well as setting an example in all ways. to read. Club members are 4th, 5th and 6th graders who often read to younger students during our monthly reading buddies period, and it’s great for them to practice their reading aloud skills in an environment safe as the adoption center.
